About the Event
The Indian Dietetic Association (IDA) Pune Chapter, in collaboration with Nucgnex, conducted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on 2nd March at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, Pune.
The event was attended by dietitians of the IDA Pune chapter, practising clinical nutritionists, and students of SNDT College, Pune.
The Speaker
Dr Satish Pattenshetti, Consultant Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgeon at DOSS, delivered the key presentation — covering the evolution of minimal invasive surgery from laparoscopy through to robotic-assisted techniques.
Why This Matters for Nutritionists
Minimal invasive surgical procedures — whether bariatric, gastrointestinal, or hepatobiliary — have direct and lasting implications for nutritional management. Shorter hospital stays, altered GI anatomy, and faster recovery timelines all shape how dietitians approach pre- and post-operative nutrition protocols.
For clinical nutritionists working alongside surgeons, understanding surgical techniques is not optional — it is foundational to providing safe, effective nutritional care.
CME Learning Outcomes
• Understanding the continuum from traditional open surgery to laparoscopic to robotic procedures
• Implications for post-operative dietary advancement protocols
• Role of the dietitian in the multidisciplinary surgical team
• Evidence-based nutritional support timelines after minimal invasive procedures
